The Dampier Peninsula is pristine country, it is laid out like a big triangle with Broome on the western corner, Derby on the eastern corner and Leveque at the top - water abounds, this means coastline surrounds a sort of pindan coloured triangle surrounded by blue background - easier navigation just doesn't happen.

Pop into Beagle Bay and buy a loaf of bread from the wood fired ovens, every Mon Wed Fri in fact. For 100 years, the wood fired ovens have turned out the most sensational high top loaves with ever such a slight burnt bottom - hey, the author has been eating it for 38 years, it is worth a trip.

Some call the it the Mayonnaise Archipelago....there are over a thousand islands North East of the Dampier Pen... it is breathtakingly beautiful. This is all the country that people pay $14000 a week to cruise in luxury boats - you can take a look over a short or long time. See the place like no one else hardly ever gets to see it.

Ok, say you have gone off in one of our planes and explored the Dampier Pen and beyond...you've earned a rest and planning now for your trip into the Kimberley - same awesome wilderness but very differnrt, not much by way of waterscapes, more mountains, gorges and rivers. Geikie and Windjana Gorges, the famous Fossil Downs Station where the pioneering family who claimed it in 1825, are still there, they're the last pioneering family in the Kimberley.

You can see Geikie Gorge from their place - spectacular from the air and of course you know that the Fitzroy River is second only to the Amazon in waterflow. Stop in at Derby on the way home and you can see where the government didn't build the tidal power house, appreciate what power is there in 11.8 metre tides - second highest in the world and twice a day. Even crocs love the Derby Jetty. Hey, you have seen some of this untameable force at the Horizontal Waterfall.
